One of my favourite books is Jack Kerouac’s On the road, it has become a classic. Book about travel, describing constant movement with an array of colorful characters, shifting landscapes, dramas, and personal development.
‘Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.’
Sometimes I feel sorry for not writing down my travels in more detail. Although I share some of my travel experiences on this blog, I don’t keep a travel journal as I would love to. I have a small notebook going with me everywhere, I write down dates and places where I am, people I meet, random words, I doodle a lot, but I rarely dare to write down my thoughts and raw impressions. Looking through old photos (there are many), I can recall certain events and scenes, even emotions… but what about those memories not recorded anywhere except on the very sensitive HD called my brain?
I don’t write like Jack that’s obvious, but I write my stories in my imperfect style. I didn’t traveled with my friend across USA like Jack but we traveled across Cyprus and it was definitely a trip worth remembering. After we descended from the north, our base for a few days was Paphos. We had only one agreement here, and that was not to skip a single sunset. And we didn’t.
I transcribed my notes from the notebook, to get an impression of how much I wrote down in those few days:
- Aphrodite’s Rock, located off the shore along the main road from Limassol to Paphos. Status in mythology as the birthplace of Aphrodite. I froze as soon as the sun went down.
- Crossed the fence on the beach despite the barriers and walked by the sea, we didn’t feel like going back so we climbed over the rocks to reach Paphos Castle
- visited archaeological park and lighthouse
- Edro III shipwreck, pain in the throat, Strepsils and propolis
- Omodos, finally a small town with a special vibe
- Vasa, lunch with no menu, no English, yet very delicious.
- Kourion beach

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring around Paphos. Let me know if you have visited Cyprus and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below.

Aphrodite’s Rock definitely seems spectacular in your pics. In fact, I loved the idea of not skipping a single sunset. I think we need to actually experience this every single day of our life including the sunrise.
