I visited this island solely because of its name, that’s what intrigued me.
Iž. So much for my criteria.
I will not write about history, geographical location, topography, vegetation and climate, you have that informations on the internet. My wish was to get lost for one day on an island in the middle of summer without crowds. I made that wish come true.
There are only two settlements on the island, Veli Iž (big) and, of course, Mali Iž (small). Veli Iž is so big that took me almost 15 minutes to go around, you can assume then how ‘big’ is Mali Iž. Surrounded by many islets and beaches, this island represent an ideal destination for me while seeking a peaceful atmosphere. A private corner by the sea on Iž was easily found. Life on this island can be idle, in fact, I really needed that tranquility.
When I got tired of reading and sleeping on the beach, I sat down on the waterfront with the locals to hear all important daily chronicles of the island.
TIP: The island of Iž has a long tradition of pottery making.
