Unplanned adventures.
We drove from Dalmatia to Istria on the scenic route by the coast. That day was reserved for the road with few stops to swim in the sea. The decision to take a look at Zavratnica bay was made very quickly, even though we were quite tired discovering new destinations is always exciting.
In the idyllic landscape of Zavratnica, there is an upper trail with a beautiful view over the bay and a promenade by the sea. To get to the bay, we first drove to the village of Jablanac, then walked along the sea about 20 minutes.
The sun was already setting, the fatigue suddenly disappeared, the number of people in the bay decreased, and I became instantly happy. Photos simply cannot convey this beauty, the colours and the feeling of the space. The blue shades of the sea in the bay are contrasted with the grey shades of the stone and the green of the sparse vegetation. As if that wasn’t enough, at depth of only a few meters, there is a wreck of a sunken warship from the Second World War.
Nothing beats a summer in Croatia and I couldn’t be more grateful for the beauty I was witnessing.
TIP: Because of its natural values, Zavratnica was declared a protected landscape and since 1981 it has been an integral part of the Velebit Nature Park.

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring around Zavratnica. Let me know if you have visited Croatia and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below.
