Everyone asks me if I miss travelling since the pandemic began. Parts of me miss making friends of strangers or waking up in a new city without any plan. I miss learning and enjoying experiences I hadn’t encountered before. But to be completely honest I get to do all of these things almost every week. I may not be traveling outside the country as much as I used to, but I still discover a lot in my ‘backyard’.
Motovun is not a place I have just discovered, I have been visiting it for years, and I’m always happy to return to it. Spending a sunny weekend with friends, overlooking the hills and vineyards of Istria and the wonderful valley of the river Mirna, while enjoying fine food and wine is truly a gift. This small hilltop fairytale town always brings me joy.
Cheerful hill is surrounded by luscious forest that tickles the imagination not only because of famous hidden truffles (a real delicacy), it’s also linked to tales of Veli Jože*, an Istrian giant that legend says lived near Motovun. The story describes the invaluable importance of freedom in the life of every man, including the giant Jože. In these days we all want our freedom back. I hope you manage to wander somewhere, it doesn’t have to be very far.
*Veli Jože is one of the most famous novels of Croatian author Vladimir Nazor.

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring around Motovun. Let me know if you have visited Croatia and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below.
