Hurghada is a beach resort town stretching some 40 km along Egypt’s Red Sea coast. It’s renowned for scuba diving and that was main reason for coming here.
If travel insurance was the worst decision of 2020, then diving school was definitely the best. The desire is to dive everywhere, but the Red Sea was the first I have had the opportunity to explore outside the borders of my country. One thing is for sure, life was absolutely gorgeous down there. Weightlessly. Probably because it’s a lot harder for the stresses of the world to reach me, such as pandemic outbreaks. This is a place where everything else fades away.
I dived along a long narrow reef leading to a sheer drop-off at 20 meters to 25 meters, paired with a shallow lagoon. I can only write you about scorpionfish and lionfish, blue spotted rays resting or moray eels come and go. I took the camera only on the first dive and used it for a few minutes. I just wanted to enjoy peaceful underwater world and soak it up without the distraction of creating.
Other than scuba diving Hurghada didn’t interest me too much. Kilometres of hotel resorts aren’t something that makes my heart skip a beat, yet I gave it a chance and one part of town particularly delighted me. The old town, El Dahar, is home to traditional Egyptian coffee shops and souks. Souk (market) is such a fun place to meet local people. I saw so many smiles and bought so many bananas.

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring through Hurghada. Let me know if you have visited Egypt and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below. staying in hurghada offers a lot of opportunities for excursions. I’m sure you’ll find something for yourself.
