Memphis is not a city anymore, today is just a site of the oldest capital city of Egypt. In the area where the ancient great city of Memphis once stood, now stands the small town of Mit Rahina (located approximately 20 kilometres south of Cairo).
It is believed that the city of Memphis was founded at the time of the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt around 3100 BC and served as an important religious center and a worship place of god Ptah. In Egyptian mythology Ptah is god of craftsmen and architects.
Saqqara is the necropolis site of the Ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis. This is the place where the royalty and nobility were buried. The most important monument is the pyramid of Djoser and marks the moment when the pyramid age began. A lot of pyramids have been found in this area, I’m happy to finally find myself inside one.
Stepped pyramid is really impressive. On the day of the visit clouds floated quickly across the sky, the hay and rays of the sun on the pyramid constantly changing like a show. Perhaps my favourite moment, almost without people, I stood there as if that show was just for me.
TIP: You should consider hiring a driver and a guide for a day and checking off all the attractions around Cairo. It is always a good idea to have a knowledgeable guide by your side, you will learn so much more.

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring through Mit Rahina and ancient sites. Let me know if you have visited Egypt and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below.

Well done young lady. You remembered everything exactly. Btw, in the photo where you are between the pillars in the passage to Djoser’s pyramid you look like a blonde. Your frog 😁
