J as …

I knew about Jelsa thanks to the wheel of fortune, quite a popular show when I was a kid. The show features a competition in which contestants solve word puzzles, spinning the wheel and calling a correct letter, each contestant for the letter ‘J’ would say as Jelsa.

The island of Hvar has delighted me before, I just didn’t know there was so much more to discover. Out of nowhere Hvar came back on my radar, perhaps then when I met someone who was talking about all the amazing places on the island. I started saying out loud how I really want to return soon, yet had no immediate or even future plans to visit. And so, that’s how it happens. I stood alone on the boat, on my way to Jelsa, ready to embark on a new journey.

I had a plan what to do there, but of course things often go wrong. Maybe that was the best thing that could have happened and one person was enough to make my short stay in Jelsa unforgettable. We’d explored the outdoors and historical charm of the island. I considered myself incredibly fortunate to have enjoyed the coves without people, but the best experience of the summer was a cave with an entrance below sea level.

I have so many fond memories, some of them I want to keep for myself. I’m afraid if I write them the magic will disappear.

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring around Jelsa. Let me know if you have visited Croatia and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below.

  1. Jelsa is just magical. For me it’s been 20 years since I was on Hvar. I need to come back with my family and show them the magic of this island. I just adored your photos. Thanks for brightening my day and brining back sweet memories!
