Officially the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
I felt like someone had thrown me into a game of monopoly. Throwing the dice I found myself in Paris, and on the next roll of the dice in Venice. It’s an unusual concept of a place where mostly luxurious casinos and hotels prevail. Macau is the world’s biggest gambling centre, surpassing even the legendary Las Vegas. Among many replicas of European cities and typical overpopulated apartment areas emerge buildings of interesting design (I dare not to write ‘good design’). Such a joy for an architect.
Macau grew like a fantasy utopia, but once a Portuguese colony still preserves some of the remains of European architecture (UNESCO World heritage site). The most photographed tourist attraction in Macau is the ruin of St. Paul’s Church. Perhaps the funniest part was people watching and the best of all was street food. With its eclectic mix of Portuguese and Chinese cultures, the culinary delights in Macau are extraordinary.
Macau was a fun game to play.
TIP: Macau’s currency is Macanese pataca (MOP).

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring around Macau. Let me know if you have visited Macau and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below.

I visited Macau years ago and loved it. It’s so interesting what with the Portuguese influence. Reading your post brought back some good memories.

My husband and I took a spontaneous trip to Macau during a long weekend in Hong Kong about a decade ago. I had never heard of it, had no idea what to expect, and it simply blew me away!! Asia meets Portugal meets Vegas, it was just SO amazing!!! Your post brought back lots of memories, thank you!
