Uzbekistan

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a millionaire, come to Uzbekistan. It’s easy to feel rich when 1 000 000 UZS (Uzbekistani s’om) is just over 100 €.

Uzbekistan was not on the list of my travel wishes, yet I ended up here. It’s always like that, I plan a trip to one destination and end up on the other. During my unforgettable journey in Uzbekistan I traveled between cities by train (Tashkent – Bukhara – Samarkand – Tashkent), also experienced my first night train ride. Buying tickets was an adventure for itself because no one speaks English, drawing and gesturing hands was necessary.

Bukhara, an ancient city, was a prominent stop on the Silk Road trade route. The city’s accommodation options are very atmospheric. The room was so artsy and cute. The wall was completely covered with Arabic decorations and tea pots and the beds were set up with the beautiful national fabric. I loved my room even more after a bad  sleep on the train, although the bed was rather tough and uncomfortable (such was the situation in the whole Uzbekistan). But every morning, breakfast was served on traditional tables with warm bread, tea and fresh fruit, the perfect way to start a day.

I spent my time in Bukhara wandering through market stalls, bought some colourful clothes (for all of you who know me well, I did not buy anything black) and talked with a local shop owner over a meal (I can smell lunchtime and I do not refuse delicious food).

I hope you like this little photo diary I put together to share my time adventuring through Bukhara. Let me know if you have visited Uzbekistan and how did you like it. If anyone has any feedback I’d be so appreciative to receive your comments and questions below.
