‘I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.’- Louis Armstrong
I imagined when I go to New Orleans, I’d be haunted by a ghosts. Although is quite popular, I was not experiencing the city through mortal senses. For the most part I did two things. I entertained myself by wandering the streets and listening live music. I’ve been to plenty party cities around the world but this one is definitely in a class of it’s own. Here life and the afterlife are a celebration. There’s joy in New Orleans, filled with awesome blues and chaotic jazz concerts. I’m not exaggerating when I say there is music played on every corner on the streets, in the parks, in any bar, every night of the week. They party like it’s going out of style. Where else you can walk down the street at any given time of day and hear music that’s unique to that place? In New Orleans music it’s not an event, it’s part of the city soundscape.
My favourites outside the French Quarter were Frenchmen Street for live music and City Park for a nature blast, found in the shade between live oaks.
TIP: Definitely see as much music as you can while in New Orleans and dance it up!
